There is only one type of Pokemon that can beat normal type Pokemon. The answer is fighting. An example of a fighting type Pokemon is Hitmontop. The normal type gym is in Goldenrod City. Goldenrod City also has a train station that can transfer you to the Kanto region in Saffron City. Another feature it has is the Radio tower. Team rocket tried to take over Radio tower years ago.
